It seems like at least half the population has a cold at the moment, so let's please skip the chorus of "Happy Birthday." Still, folks in the enterprise CRM industry should find it interesting to know that Salesforce.com is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its founding today.
While smaller players may choose not to celebrate the occasion, it's undeniably important. With some of the biggest companies in so many fields in trouble - think AIG, GM, and so on - it's nice to see the leader in this area doing all right.
Or if you just want to look at the development from a celebrity-spotting angle, Eric Schmidt, Michael Dell, Nicholas Carr, and Gavin Newsom all congratulated Salesforce.com.
As for what industry insiders can expect from the future, Marc Benioff, Salesforce.com's chairman and CEO, shared a few thoughts. "As we look forward to the next decade, we see not only applications, but also platforms running in the cloud," he said in a statement. "The age of enterprise cloud computing is here."
Benioff later stressed the concepts of low costs, low risks, and fast returns.
In case you're wondering, Salesforce.com claims to have "more than 1.5 million net paying subscribers at 55,400 companies around the world."
